{"id":303,"date":"2020-04-18T22:23:14","date_gmt":"2020-04-18T20:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/013.elfgenpick.net\/wp\/?p=303"},"modified":"2020-05-31T22:37:35","modified_gmt":"2020-05-31T20:37:35","slug":"south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.annualreport.iofc.org\/?p=303","title":{"rendered":"South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On 21 June 2019, 300 young women (and some men) came to the Soweto Theatre, in Johannesburg, South Africa, to celebrate their graduation from a five-month empowerment programme run in partnership between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iofcafrica.org\/en\/creators-of-peace\">Creators of Peace South Africa<\/a> and the City of Johannesburg. The holistic programme, now in its fifth year, focuses on health, occupational skills, rights and responsibilities, empathy and spiritual well-being. Since 2018, its \u2018inner healing\u2019 module has been provided by IofC through Creators of Peace circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The programme focuses on six of Johannesburg\u2019s toughest regions. Many of those&nbsp;who took part suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. Follow up after the Peace Circles found that over two thirds had made changes in their lives and attitudes as a result: including better parenting, reducing substance abuse, returning to school or finding work.<strong> \u2018I was badly abused and lost my personal value,\u2019<\/strong> said one. <strong>\u2018Today I am starting to love and accept myself as I am.\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of IofC and Creators of Peace, Cleo Mohlaodi said, \u2018<strong>We believe that by creating platforms for all people to tell their stories, we will be able to heal the past and harness the future.\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 21 June 2019, 300 young women (and some men) came to the Soweto Theatre, in Johannesburg, South Africa, to celebrate their graduation from a five-month empowerment programme run in partnership between Creators of Peace South Africa and the City of Johannesburg.
